Advocating for LGBTQ+ victim-survivors of domestic violence.

I’m Jazmeen Payne (she/her), a proud queer, second-generation migrant living on Ngunnawal-Ngambri land (Canberra).

My lived experience as a survivor of domestic violence shapes my passion for leveraging strategy, innovation, and advocacy to build safer, more equitable communities, particularly for LGBTQ+ people from diverse backgrounds.

Advocacy & Leadership
I’m honoured to be a Director on the Board of the LGBTQ Domestic Violence Awareness Foundation (DVAF). At DVAF, I lead the Marketing and Communications Committee and sit on the See Hear Believe eLearning Working Group.

DVAF’s world-first eLearning program, See, Hear, Believe: Responding to Domestic & Family Violence in LGBTQ+ Communities, equips frontline responders with the skills to effectively support LGBTQ+ victim-survivors of domestic, family, and intimate partner violence, an initiative I’m immensely proud to champion. In the See Hear Believe Working Group, I share my lived experience as a survivor-advocate for the next iteration. This will be one of my most meaningful contributions.

Speaking & Workshops

I speak at conferences, panels, workshops, radio and community events. In 2025, I have begun working with incredible local service providers in Canberra, advocating for more inclusive, survivor-centred support services for LGBTQ+ communities.

I have previously advised community organisations, including the Australian Red Cross, Federation of Ethnic Communities’ Councils of Australia (FECCA), Diversity ACT, and YWCA Canberra, working to ensure that young people, people of colour, and LGBTQ+ voices are integral to decision-making processes.

In 2022, I was very honoured to be listed as an Out For Australia and BCG 30 Under 30 recipient, recognised for my tangible contributions to LGBTQIA+ communities.
